Asbestos is contained in a number of fibrous materials such as popcorn ceilings, glues, and adhesives, insulation, cements, fireproofing, plastics, electrical cloth, and partitions, vinyl products, duct connectors and flex duct connectors, construction mastic, and more.
These materials, when broken during demolition, release the fibrous materials into the air and can cause health problems many years down the road to an exposed individual. Heavy exposure can cause health problems within the first five years of exposure. Light exposure can take 10 years or longer to show signs. Most exposures result in lung cancer, but other respiratory complications can be a result of exposure.
Homes built before 1977 need to be tested for asbestos. We work with abatement companies to eliminate asbestos-containing materials located in your home before our demo contractors get to work. The asbestos abatement process contains three zones for isolation and disposal. This can be a cumbersome process, but it is critical for your health, our crew’s health, and the safety of the general public.
